Lisa C. Brown, 51, died and a passenger, Donell Alston, 40, suffered non life-threatening injuries, police said. The car, a Lexus GS 300, struck a tree before rolling over.

Arriving firefighers found one person was trapped in the vehicle, which was on its roof, while a second was on the ground following the incident shortly after 10 p.m.

Both were later transported to Norwalk Hospital. The northbound car was about 40 feet off the highway about one-quarter mile before Exit 41 near Twin Oaks Lane.

A resident of Twin Oaks Lane said someone was yelling for help from the woods before emergency workers arrived, police said.

Westport and Norwalk fire and ambulance units responded to the scene as well as Westport and state police.
