Shortly after noon on March 2, 2018 the Westport Fire Department received multiple calls reporting a structure fire on Canal Road. The Westport Fire Department responded with 5 engine companies, 1 ladder truck, 1 Rescue, 1 High Water Rescue Truck and the Shift Commander. Engine 4 arrived and found Canal Road covered with over one foot of water. Engine 4 reported heavy smoking coming from the house.

Engine 5 was the second arriving unit and laid five inch supply down the flooded road. Crews found the garage on fire and stretched two fire attack hoses. Crews simultaneously extinguished the fire and searched the house for any occupants. It was determined that no occupants had been home at the time of the fire and that a dog had been removed by a neighbor.

Representatives from the Fire Marshal’s Office responded and are conducting an investigation. The Norwalk Fire Department, Westport Police and Westport EMS responded to assist on scene. Fairfield and Weston Fire Departments sent fire engines to Westport Fire Headquarters to assist covering other calls in town.
